Use of Acid-Base Indicator for Quantitative Paper Chromatography of Sugars

Abstract

QUANTITATIVE methods of paper chromatography tend to be unsatisfactory largely because of the very small amounts of substance separated. In the case of sugars, the spots are generally located by guide strips, which are an additional source of inaccuracy. Giri1 has recently shown that relatively large amounts of sugars can be separated by circular chromatography. The same author and Parihar2 attempted to recover the sugars by running the solvent off the paper and collecting it in fractions; however, they did not achieve quantitative separation.
