Synthesis of γ-Methyleneglutamic Acid and γ-Methyleneglutamine

Abstract

THE isolation of two unsaturated amino-acids (I, X = OH and NH2) was recently reported1. They were first obtained from groundnut plants, but have since been detected in two quite unrelated species, namely, tulips2 and hops3. In groundnut plants they have been shown4 to be of considerable biochemical importance, playing a major part in nitrogen transport.
