Fractionation of Isotopes by Distillation of some Organic Substances

Abstract

WE have found that the distillation of chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, methyl alcohol and benzene leads, surprisingly enough, in all four cases to an enrichment of carbon-13 in the distillate, whereas the other heavy isotopes, such as chlorine-37 and oxygen-18, are enriched in the still pot.
