Abstract
IN a series of papers, Shaw et al.1–3 have submitted evidence which indicates the presence of two pharmacologically distinct groups of cells in sympathetic ganglia, one group of cells giving rise to vasoconstrictor fibres and the other to vasodilator fibres. It was also mentioned that the cells in the superior cervical ganglion did not react quantitatively in the same manner to all paralysants3. Consequently, a number of ganglionic blocking agents have been tested on the superior cervical ganglion of cats.
