When we examined our previous data1 and Flowers et al,2 we observed a low incidence of hemorrhagic cystitis. Zanis-Neto described two cases of HC with cyclophosphamide 200 mg/kg and one case with CY 140 mg/kg plus ATG. Flowers reported two cases of HC among our patients included in a joint protocol with the Seattle Group. One received CY 140 mg/kg and had significant but reversible HC; the other received 120 mg/kg and had mild HC. When we analyzed the group receiving CY 100 mg/kg3 no HC was observed. This group was the first one receiving Mesna.

Recently, Auerbach4 published the data obtained from a joint study with our group, where the genomic DNA from 84 FA patients was studied. FANCA mutation screening identified 52 patients (62%) in FA-A, and there is a trend suggesting that most FA patients in Brazil have a better prognosis, similar to FANCC patients with exon 1 mutation.
