Abstract
THE attempts by various workers to find a satisfactory substitute for bovine albumin as a suspension medium in the (antigen + univalent antibody) reacting system have been reviewed by Mourant1. The polydispersoid polysaccharides known as dextrans2 possess certain properties which we considered might enable them to replace bovine albumin in such a system. This supposition has been well substantiated in respect of the use of the substance as a diluent for univalent anti-D in routine grouping procedures.
