Abstract
Specimens of Centella asiatica grown in Madagascar have been found to contain asiaticoside1, which is said to haye value in the treatment of leprosy2. Lederer, Boiteau and their colleagues3 have shown that agiaticoside is a rhamnose-glucose derivative of a triterpene acid, asiatic acid (C30H48O5). Elsewhere4 it has been suggested that there may be an 'oxidized form' of asiaticoside present in the fresh plant, which is more readily soluble in water.
