Induced Adenocarcinoma of the Stomach in Mice

Abstract

THE great rarity of malignant tumours in the glandular stomach of all lower animals is generally admitted. The only records of spontaneous adenocarcinoma in mice seem to be three cases among 142,000 post-mortem examinations by Wells, Slye and Holmes1, two in Mus musculus and one in Peromyscus. Strong2 has reported adenocarcinoma in mice of his NHO line, derived from ancestors injected with methylcholanthrene and selected for resisantance to local sarcoma-induction ; but these animals are not representative of the species.
