LARVÆ of Galleria mellonella are selected in their adult state a little before they begin to form their cocoons. Ground up and the chitinous cuticle filtered off, they are extracted with acetone. This extract is washed three times with N/10 sodium hydroxide. The three liquors thus obtained are freed of acetone, neutralized to pH 7·5, and each is concentrated so that 1 c.c. corresponds to 1 gm. of larval bodies.
