Abstract
ARISTOTELIAN physics and astronomy had had place in the arts curriculum at the College of Glasgow ever since King Jamie wi' the Fiery Face welcomed the advent of Scotland's second University (1451). In the eighteenth century a more modern science was recognized by the institution of chairs in natural philosophy (1717) and practical astronomy (1760).
