Abstract
FROM the earliest times of which we have a record to the present day, the history of man has been marked by constant changes in the social systems, changes that often were abrupt and violent. One form of social structure or of government has succeeded another. Small but powerful social or political units have grown by accretion or by conquest into great kingdoms or empires. These kingdoms or empires eventually have decayed or fallen apart.
