Salt Absorption of Plants

Abstract

IN a communication to NATURE I outlined an electrochemical theory of salt absorption by plant roots1. Later, Hoagland and Steward criticized not only the theory itself but also the data on which it was founded2. From the article by Hoagland and Steward the general reader might get the impression that the experimental basis of my theory is doubtful. I therefore venture to give a short recapitulation of the work of the Institute of Plant Physiology in Ultuna, Uppsala.
