Abstract
WE have shown1 that the fluorimetric assay2 of vitamin B1 in milk gives values about 50 per cent lower than the biological test. The difference was not due to the presence in milk of free cocarboxylase or of the monophosphate, as in no case could more than a trace of fluorescence due to oxidized phosphorylated aneurin be observed in the aqueous layer after extraction with iso-butanol.
