Abstract
SO long ago as 1934, the idea of exploring the Hebrides with the view of writing a comprehensive Flora of the Inner and Outer Isles was conceived by the Department of Botany, King's College, University of Durham, and with it, as a corollary, the notion of studying the evolution of local races in the same area. At the same time, too, the whole of the plans necessary for bringing our project to a successful conclusion were formulated.
