Mean (±SEM) prepulse inhibition in Wistar, WKY, and WKHA male rats administered either saline (panel A) or 1, 2, or 5 mg/kg methylphenidate (panels in B) across 5 different levels of prepulse intensities. Each function in each panel represents the results from a separate group of animals (n = 6 per group). A three-way ANOVA revealed significant main effects for strain (p < .025), indicating lowered PPI in Wistar animals relative to WKHA, drug treatment (p < .03), indicating a dose-dependent reduction in PPI, and prepulse intensity (p < .0001), indicating increasing levels of PPI across increasing prepulse intensities. There were no significant interactions.
