Abstract
IN his recent discourse at the Royal Institution1, Sir Richard Gregory refers to some of the earliest suggestions for systems of television. As perhaps being of some historical interest, I should like to note with regard to scanning—a fundamental principle—that Mr. Llewelyn B. Atkinson in a note, appended to a letter on ” Seeing to a Distance by Electricity” in the Telegraphic Journal and Electrical Review (Dec. 13, 1889, p. 683), says:
