Abstract
THE recent revival in awakened interest in various items of ship equipment. One of the most important of these developments has taken place in the methods of sounding, and it has recently been stated, by a high authority in these matters, that no modern ship could be considered properly equipped without the fitting of echo sounding. It is the purpose of this article to review briefly the principal systems at present in use, and to attempt to draw a fair comparison between them.
