Abstract
THE results of several investigations have confirmed the discovery1 that oxygen and peroxides (oxidants) may greatly affect the addition of hydrogen bromide to olefinic substances2. In all these investigations the double-bond has been in the terminal position (CH2 = CH – CH2 –), oxidants causing the addition of hydrogen bromide to yield CH2Br – CH2 – CH2 –, and anti-oxidants allowing the formation of CH3 CHBr – CH2 –.
