Addition of methyl-pyruvate rescues viability of Akt expressing cell during glucose deprivation. Percent viability was measured by propidium iodide exclusion for LN18 (a), LN229 (b), and LN229+myrAkt (c) cells. Cells were withdrawn from glucose and incubated in the presence of no drug (−glc; ○), or 10 mM methyl-pyruvate (−glc+pyruvate; •) for three days. Data are presented as mean±s.d. of triplicate samples and are representative of three independent experiments
