Abstract
THE shadouf is a man-power apparatus which from -L time immemorial has been used in raising water from the Nile or from canals, etc., for local irrigation purposes in Egypt. Great numbers of them can be seen in operation throughout all parts of Upper Egypt, and there appears to be little tendency towards their displacement by power-driven pumps.
