Abstract
1. MASTICATION I PROPOSE in this and the following papers to give an account of the physiology of digestion, or, in other words, to describe the operations to which food is submitted, and the alterations it undergoes, before it is absorbed into the system and becomes adapted to the nourishment of the body.
