Comparing LTA with TH for the treatment of gastric cancer

Gastric cancer of the cardia or subcardia is often treated with a left thoracoabdominal approach (LTA). Prognosis is often poor even with this extensive procedure, however, and some researchers have therefore recommended use of a less-extensive abdominal–transhiatal approach (TH). Sasako et al. have recently reported results from a randomized, phase III study in Japan that compared the two approaches.
