Transdermal fentanyl for managing chronic pain in children

micro-Opioid agonists are used to manage chronic pain in adults, but their use in children has been limited because of now-outdated concerns over addiction and safety. The drug-delivery routes that are commonly used in adults can also be distressing to children. Consequently, chronic pain in children has often gone untreated. As transdermal delivery of the opioid fentanyl has been well tolerated in adults, Finkel et al. investigated its use in children with chronic pain.
