A simple score predicts failure of arteriovenous fistulas to mature

The arteriovenous fistula offers reliable long-term access to blood circulation; however, failure to mature (FTM) can sometimes mean that a fistula is unsuitable for use in hemodialysis. Lok et al. have identified preoperative characteristics that are predictive of FTM, and have developed a scoring system that might contribute to the management of patients at risk of this outcome.
