In humans, the immune response effector complement 3 exists as two main allotypes: complement 3 fast (C3F) and complement 3 slow (C3S). A C3F allele in donor kidneys might confer a long-term graft survival benefit to recipients who lack this variant. This is the exciting conclusion of a retrospective analysis published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
