The ultimate goal in caring for children with urinary tract infections is to prevent progressive renal damage. It is therefore important for clinicians to have strategies to identify and to aggressively treat patients at risk of developing long-term sequelae. On the other hand, clinical investigations must be limited by considering patient comfort and radiation exposure; economic considerations should also be taken into account.
