The aim of Thoeny et al.'s paper is to propose the application of diffusion-weighted renal MRI using a simplified approach based on non-breath-hold acquisition. Application of diffusion-weighted MRI sequences in the abdomen has been limited, compared with that in the brain, because of motion artifacts. Up to now, few studies of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance have been performed in the kidney, and these studies have all used breath-hold sequences.1, 2, 3, 4 It is clear, however, that in clinical practice the breath-hold protocol cannot be applied to all patients.
