The introduction of interferon
plus ribavirin combination therapy for HCV infection and the development of PEGYLATED INTERFERON has led to an impressive increase in virologic responses from <10% to >50% of cases.1, 2 It has become evident that there is a close correlation between sustained treatment responses in HCV genotype 1 infection and the dose of ribavirin administered, with better responses with higher doses.
