Inhaled treprostinil for pulmonary hypertension

Inhaled iloprost was recently approved as a treatment for severe pulmonary arterial hypertension in Europe, Australia and the US, but inhalation sessions of up to approximately 2 h per day are time-consuming. Another prostacyclin analog, treprostinil, has a longer plasma half-life and might, therefore, require less frequent administration if inhaled; however, this drug has only been approved for intravenous or subcutaneous delivery.
