Role of tenascin-C in heart muscle after acute myocardial infarction

Researchers in Japan have found that tenascin-C, a protein normally expressed in the developing embryo, is a possible predictor of left ventricular remodeling and of prognosis after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The protein, expressed during wound healing, cancer invasion and tissue remodeling, is also involved in the development of the embryonic heart, but is not normally detected in the adult heart.
