Long-term studies are at the root of decision making in clinical practice, and frequently invalidate theories on the basis of early results. The EuroSCORE is one of the best established and validated risk-stratification models for contemporary practice in cardiac surgery, and was developed to assess early mortality during hospital stay. We demonstrated the ability of EuroSCORE to predict long-term all-cause mortality after coronary artery bypass grafting surgery,1 and also confirmed its predictive ability after heart-valve and cardiac surgery.2, 3
