Circulatory support for acute myocarditis patients

Patients with acute myocarditis caused by infectious agents often require circulatory support, but few studies have assessed the effect of such support on patients' clinical outcomes. Japanese researchers have found that
70% of patients given percutaneous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) during the acute phase of fulminant myocarditis will make a full cardiac recovery. Heart transplantation might thus be delayed or avoided.
