Circulatory support for acute myocarditis patients

Caroline Barranco

This article has no abstract so we have provided the first paragraph of the full text.

Patients with acute myocarditis caused by infectious agents often require circulatory support, but few studies have assessed the effect of such support on patients' clinical outcomes. Japanese researchers have found that approx70% of patients given percutaneous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) during the acute phase of fulminant myocarditis will make a full cardiac recovery. Heart transplantation might thus be delayed or avoided.
