Despite advances in the treatment of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, such as the development of the automatic external defibrillator, cardiac arrest survival rates remain low. Thus, a strategy for the primary prevention of sudden death using ICD therapy in high-risk patients is potentially attractive.
