Solid-phase synthesis is the synthesis of chemical compounds whereby the reactant molecule is chemically bound to an insoluble material and reagents are added in the solution-phase. Excess reagents can be easily removed, and purification achieved, by washing. Solid-phase methods are widely used for the synthesis of biological molecules such as peptides, nucleic acids and oligosaccharides.
