Marburg virus is an infectious agent belonging to the virus family Filoviridae, which also includes the Ebolavirus genus, and causes a rare and severe type of haemorrhagic fever in humans and non-human primates. Owing to their high morbidity and mortality, filoviruses are classified as category A priority pathogens.
