A small area model to assess temporal trends and sub-national disparities in healthcare quality
Here, authors present an approach to assess subnational healthcare quality, leveraging health facility survey data. The method jointly estimates indicators over space and time, and may provide insights to decision-makers and health service program managers.

Evidence-driven spatiotemporal COVID-19 hospitalization prediction with Ising dynamics

Drivers of SARS-CoV-2 testing behaviour: a modelling study using nationwide testing data in England
SARS-CoV-2 testing rates have varied during the pandemic but the drivers of changes in testing behaviour are unclear. Here, the authors link national testing data from England to indicators of epidemic trends to describe how testing varies according to level of virus transmission, disease susceptibility/severity, public health measures, and risk perception.

Post-covid medical complaints following infection with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron vs Delta variants
The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant is associated with less severe disease but less is known about variant-specific risk of long-term complaints. Monitoring 1.3 million individuals from Norway for post-acute COVID-19 complaints up to 126 days shows that the burden is similar for Omicron and Delta for most complaints except for musculoskeletal pain.

Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 with clinical condition definitions and comparison in a matched cohort
In this study, the authors use electronic health record data from the US to characterise post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC). They identify 17 common PASC conditions and find an overall ~12% increase in risk of PASC conditions in the post-acute period among people with a SARS-CoV-2 positive test compared to matched test-negative controls.

Open data on industry payments to healthcare providers reveal potential hidden costs to the public
Industry payments to healthcare providers for non-research costs are common in the US. Linking Medicare and Open Payments data, the authors find that providers receiving more industry payments tend to bill higher drug and medical costs, and this association is stronger in more conservative states.
