Examination of the processes by which viruses, prokaryotes, and eukaryotes transmit hereditary information and regulate its expression. Topics include patterns of inheritance, structure and replication of hereditary material, transcription and its regulation, translation, mutation, recombinant DNA, and oncogenes. Technology elucidating gene structure and function and application of DNA technology to other areas will be considered.
