Two models of chromosome organization.
A) The chromosome territory model. B) The spaghetti model. The two models make distinct predictions when tested in a marking experiment. Upon marking of a nuclear subvolume, model A predicts marking of a small subset of chromosomes, model B marking of many. These models were tested by irradiating a subsection of the nucleus using a microlaser and mapping of damaged regions in subsequent mitosis.
