Blog Update

The past few months have been eventful and exciting. I finished my undergraduate degree at Davidson College and completed my biology thesis project. Now, I am happy to announce that I will be moving to the University of California, Berkeley, to begin a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology in August.

This summer I will be releasing new content, broadening the scope of Bio 2.0 to include not only synthetic biology but also topics of general interest within the fields of genetics, cell biology, and molecular biology.

Mother nature still beats the best bioengineers around. The varied products of evolution showcase the staggering diversity of the living world. In doing so, they reveal nature's total indifference toward our assumptions about biological rules or universality. Surprises abound.

New discoveries about how organisms make a living, motivated by curiosity and the desire for understanding, extend the biological toolkits used by engineers. Likewise, sophisticated toolkits allow scientists to manipulate natural systems in new ways to make fundamental discoveries.

Moving forward, I hope that Bio 2.0 will capture the natural wonder that is biology, the ingenuity of bioengineering applications, and the value of the ongoing dialogue between the two.
