PFIZER: Looking toward a Healthier World

Since 1849, Pfizer has refused to believe that the ills of the world can't be cured. We pioneered mass production of penicillin, laying the groundwork for this country's modern pharmaceutical system. It's our history of great progress that drives us forward today. We're developing the cures of the future.

The drug discovery and development process remains an arduous road, lasting up to 15 years. Pfizer is working in disciplined fashion to reduce attrition - that is, the loss of potential medicines at each stage of discovery and development process. The goal is to weed out early in the process those compounds that won't make it through regulatory approval, allowing more focus on compounds with higher odds of success.

Right now, we have hundreds of research projects across 18 therapeutic areas, looking for treatments for the diseases and conditions that plague mankind. It is our greatest hope that someday in the future, you'll hear the announcement that cancer has been defeated, heart disease eliminated, Alzheimer's eradicated. We're determined to find cures for the diseases that touch all our families.

At Pfizer, we look to the future with the knowledge that the only thing incurable is our passion.
