CT angiography for detection of coronary artery disease before cardiac valve surgery

The majority of patients scheduled to undergo valve surgery are assessed for obstructive coronary artery disease (which can compromise outcome) using conventional coronary angiography (CCA); however, the procedure is expensive, requiring hospital admission, and carries a small risk of complications, ranging from inguinal hematoma to stroke and even death.
