C-reactive protein levels are increased in active carotid artery plaques

C-reactive protein (CRP) deposited in the neointima is thought to be involved in the induction and promotion of proatherothrombosis phenotype in atherosclerotic lesions. Krupinski et al. have investigated the local expression of CRP and other proinflammatory biomarkers in human advanced carotid artery plaques.
