Benefits of cardiac resynchronization therapy
This article has no abstract so we have provided the first paragraph of the full text.
Results from the Cardiac Resynchronization—Heart Failure (CARE-HF) study support the use of implantable cardiac-resynchronization devices in patients with heart failure due to left-ventricular systolic dysfunction and cardiac dyssynchrony. As anticipated, symptoms, left-ventricular function and quality of life improved, and plasma concentrations of natriuretic peptides declined in patients receiving this intervention. Importantly, the trial also revealed that these benefits were accompanied by a substantial reduction in the risk of death or complications.
