Cancer & Metabolism

Guest Editor: Jean-Ehrland Ricci, INSERM, Nice, France

While extremely diverse in origin, all cancer cells show profound metabolic changes. As researchers tackle these differences from numerous angles, it became obvious that metabolic adaptations were not limited to glucose metabolism (Warburg effect) but are more general, affecting several metabolic pathways, and overall are intrinsically linked to whole body metabolism. In this special issue of Oncogenesis on "Cancer & Metabolism" we present five reviews each discussing a special aspect of the connection between cancer cells and their metabolic adaptations, from molecular mechanisms to anticancer therapies, and highlighting the dialogue between whole organism and cancer cells (diets and cachexia).
