The mechanism by which cells recognize misfolded proteins in the
endoplasmic reticulum has been defined at the cell biological level. The enzyme
UDP-glucose:glycoprotein glucosyltransferase identifies and specifically glucosylates
misfolded domains within a multi-domain protein.
