Structural genomics in North America has moved remarkably quickly from
ideas to pilot projects. Just three years ago, the field was only a concept,
independently being discussed by its many inventors. Now it is already a well-organized,
increasingly-funded, consortium-based effort to determine protein structures
on a large scale.
