Cover image detail
The structure of the transmembrane domain of the outer membrane protein A of Escherichia coli (OmpA) consists of a regular, extended eight-stranded b-barrel that is constructed like an inverse micelle with large water-filled cavities, but no pore. Thus, as an anchor to the outer membrane, it may be equivalent to the singlechain a-helix anchor of the inner bacterial membrane.
