Abstract
Although there's some discussion about an exact date for the origin of the telescope, 2009 is considered by some as the 400th anniversary of the instrument. Galileo developed his telescope and presented his invention in both Venice and Rome, including to members of the Accademia dei lincei, and in the year 1611, he was inducted into this Roman society.
