Searching for the silver lining

Judith M White & J David Castle

The authors are in the Department of Cell Biology, University of Virginia, 1300 Jefferson Park Avenue, Charlottesville, Virginia 22908-0732, USA. jw7g@virginia.edu or jdc4r@virginia.edu

Work presented in this issue reveals the structure of a SNARE transmembrane domain and supports a model of exocytosis via hemifusion. Hemifusion may thus be a common intermediate in many, if not all, biological fusion reactions.
