Figure 3 | Functional MRI study of auditory hallucinations78.   Group brain activation during random sampling of hallucinations. Five transverse sections through the brain, at (from left to right) -13 mm, -7 mm, +4 mm, +37 mm and +42 mm relative to the intercommissural plane. The right side of the brain is shown on the left side of each section. The coloured areas are regions that were activated during auditory hallucinations, with the foci of maximal significance shown in yellow. The main activations ( p <0.0001) were in the right inferior colliculus, the right and left insula, the left parahippocampal gyrus, the right superior temporal gyrus and the right thalamus. Activation was also evident in the middle frontal and anterior cingulate gyri, and in the right inferior and superior parietal lobule.
